return to Pemigewasset description
Below are two views from the Appalachian Trail. Extremely thick fog prevented me from
taking any more photos while I was in this magnificent but strenuous wilderness
area. Trails go straight up the mountain in the East, due to lack of room
for switchbacks and because the trails were not constructed to be used for
moving livestock to pasture as out in the mountains of the western United
States.

The guide book told me I was traveling one of the most scenic portions of the AT and the White Mountains, and when I had views it was true. I did a loop hike, going up the old railroad grade, then over to the AT, over Bond, and back. The AT was basically boulder climbing in one section and my legs got a bit bloody from abrasions.

This was my first solo trip and I learned much on this trip.
Unfortunately, I only had 3 days available. A longer trip would
have allowed me to see more of the area and also give me more "out of
the fog" time.
