Biking Florida's

Withlacoochee Trail State Park

In 1989, CSX Transportation sold this 46 mile right-of-way to the State of Florida, one of the first purchases of the Florida Rails-to-Trails program, and it is now managed as a linear state park. The twelve feet wide surface is asphalt for the entire 46 mile length and no fee is charged to users.

Trailheads are well furnished with parking, water, and restrooms. There are many road crossings and dwellings are sometimes visible. Above is Hernando Lake near the town of Hernando's trailhead.

Occasional remnants of the old rail line are spotted as this whistle marker. Trail maps are available at trailheads.
