| The most fun I had was determining my body type,
and then learning what Dr. Mein had to say about the selected type. I approached
this from two directions. First, I tried the On Line approach to body typing,
which can be found: http://www.bodytype.com/jump_start/women.html
This
helped me identify my specific body type, as different from all of the others.
As the author points out, there are subtle differences in body types, so
sometimes it takes a bit of looking. I've decided that by looking at the
pictures I am probably a Thyroid. |
| When I went to Dr. Mein's book, and looked up
thyroid I was amazed that the descriptions fit me pretty closely as far as
personality traits and descriptions of weight gain. What was really a shocker
was to review the dietary guidelines and find that the way I have been eating
for the past two years were the same recommendations Dr. Mein gave for a Thyroid
Body Type. Her recommendations were for 30% Protein and 20% fat. Increasing my
protein intake, eating the good fats, and decreasing my intake of certain
complex carbohydrates have helped me to feel healthy and balanced. I have
not seen significant weight loss, but I have been able to maintain my weight
without significant weight gain. And this is my personal goal right now. |
| The personality trait analysis was interesting.
Dr. Mein described the Thyroid personality as: "Getting things done...bridging
the gap between the theoretical and practical...thriving on doing things that
are worthwhile." The other tidbit from my characteristic traits was that I could
understand and relate to all of the other body types. This led me to think about
my current work with Balanced Eating, and also my work within the health field.
The recognition that we are all so unique and different is very affirming. |
| The first 1/3 of the 500+ page book helps you identify your body
type, and then spends some time talking about nutritional guidelines, weight
control challenges, and implementing the individualized food plans which will be
presented later in the book. |
|
Last 2/3 of the book goes into each body type in
detail, and describes recommended food choices and foods to avoid. There is also
a nice section with each body type on personality characteristics. I like
the fact that each body type is seen for its own merit, and one type is not
touted as better than another. We can't change our body types , yet somehow
society pressures us to think one type is better than another. I am looking
forward to attending a workshop with Dr. Mein to further understand my own body
type, and the body types of others. hank you, Dr. Mein for the review copy of this book. Pat
