The Miraculous World of Your Unborn Baby |
 |
|
Bradford, Nikki |
| This book offers up
pictures into the womb. Along with beautiful photos and
illustrations the author provides us with very informative
information about everything from genetics to the amazing newborn.
|
|
| A quote from the
introduction by David B. Chamberlain says it all: "In only a brief span
of years, the old view that babies were virtually deaf, dumb, and blind
has been replaced with the view that sensory development in the womb is
rapid, voluntary motion comes early, and prenates are in constant
interaction with their parents--shaping the future day by day. Babies as
yet unborn are listening and learning."(p 7).

Gabriel, Michael,
Remembering Your Life Before Birth, 1992. This book gave me
goosebumps as I read experiences of individuals who felt they knew
events of their conception and preconception. The author gives some
powerful suggestions to parents wishing to connect with their child
before birth, and for making the birth a more meaningful experience.
This book can be ordered through
http://www.amazon.com/ or from the publisher: 1-707-542-5400. |
Jones,
Carl, Visualizations for an Easier Childbirth and
Mind
Over Labor are two classics, and among the early books written about
the psychological approaches to birthing. Most childbirth educators have
these books for review.
Visualizations for an Easier Childbirth
has written scripts for practice. |
Korte,
Diana The VBAC Companion. 1997. Though this has a focus of VBAC
success, I found many of Diana's Recommendations were inspiring, and
along the line of changing mental viewpoints and beliefs about
childbirth. Another wonderful book along this line is: A Good Birth,
A Safe Birth. A good promotion of change and empowerment.

Levine,
Barbara Hoberman, Your Body Believes Every Word You Say. 1991.
The title says it all. If there was ever any doubt, this will clarify
for you how what you say affects you. Provides good guidelines for
changing your thinking into a more positive direction, which will
improve your health. ISBN=0944031072.

O'Neill,
Michelle LeClaire, Creative Childbirth,
1993. This book presents a unique approach to
birthing, again using the mind-body connection. The slim book has lots of
ideas, and Michelle has tapes that
provide a great adjunct to the readings. She correlates the use of music
and labor. The books, tapes and more information about this program can
be found at
http://home1.gte.net/birthing/ Also: Better Birthing with Hypnosis |
Payne,
Niravi B. The Language of Fertility
1997. This book starts before
pregnancy to help prepare a woman for a conception and for motherhood.
The author conducts the "Whole Person Fertility Program" especially for
women who are having trouble conceiving. More about the program can be
found at:
http://www.inciid.org/payne.html and

Peterson,
Gayle, Birthing Normally
and
An Easier Childbirth
are two
wonderful books that address the mind-body connection of birthing.
Gayle Peterson has made a wonderful contribution to the psychological
aspect of birthing with these two classics. Birthing Normally has been
with us for many years, and is a 'must read' for a midwife or family
approaching birth. Her books give many tools for exploring the various
psychosocial aspects of childbirth. Gayle also prepares midwives and
educators through her own childbirth preparation program which she calls
Body-Centered Hypnosis. |
