Hello, I'm Robert Church and I have been teaching guitar on the coastside for about five years. For the previous 12 years, I worked for Apple Computer Inc. and before that, I taught guitar in the East Bay area over a 10 year period.

I specialize in teaching public or home-schooled elementary and middle school kids, but I also enjoy teaching teens and adults. I play both acoustic and electric guitar and teach both finger and pickstyle. My students learn to play songs, rhythm guitar, melody playing, easy music theory, improvisation, and how to read music and Tab.

Beginning October 31, 2000 Robert Church began providing after school guitar lessons for La Honda Elementary School. He provided those lessons once a week until June 5, 2001. At the end of May his students participated in a school-wide recital.

Robert was always on time for his lessons and was able to connect with his students. He provided lessons not only for the current 4th and 5th grade students but also gave lessons to former students of La Honda Elementary that had gone into middle school. He also had the parent of one of our students taking lessons.

Robert's calm demeanor and expertise at guitar enabled him to bridge the gap between many age groups and customize the lessons to the person's ability to grasp musical concepts.

My ten year old son Josef has been a guitar student of Robert Church for the past twelve months. During this period Josef has shown a marked improvement in his technical ability as well as confidence level. Robert's knowledge of music theory is vast and his understanding of when to impart it is uncanny. This knowledge has been the main stepping block for Josef to reach the next level, jamming with friends and family without feeling self conscious.

Robert seems to have an interest a wide variety of styles from bluegrass to modern rock and this interest has been passed on to my son, thank God. I always hoped that Josef wouldn't want to play Blink 182 all day long, thanks for making my dream come true Robert! During each lesson there is an exchange between student and teacher that creates an air of collaboration instead of the normal teacher/student relationship.

I am writing this letter of reference regarding Mr. Robert Church. Mr. Church has been my son's guitar teacher for the last 2 1/2 years. My son Dylan was in 2nd grade when he began learning the guitar. Mr. Church was very patient and very willing to teach my son on the electric guitar even though quite young to learn on such an instrument. He has taught my son how to read music, basic music theory, and how to improvise. Dylan thoroughly enjoys his lessons and looks forward to them each week.

I also find Mr. Church to be genuinely interested in teaching and enjoys watching my son progress. He is flexible and provides feedback to both me and my husband regarding Dylan and what they are working on in the lessons.
