BRUCE JOHN CROWTHER

12 November, 1945 - 12 March, 2004
Bruce was first appointed to the Wrentham Historical Commission in 1978 and served as member, secretary and was its long time treasurer when he died suddenly at home in his beloved Wrentham. Always a willing and capable participant in all WHC activities, his passing has left a large void in all with whom he worked.

A letter from C. Gordon Woodhams, Sr. on 30 March, 1966, to the Board of Selectmen, started correspondence which resulted in the formation of a study committee. At the adjourned town meeting on the 27th of March, 1967, at the recommendation of the committee, Article 49, asking the town to accept the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 8D of the General Laws, was voted unanimously. The first Wrentham Historical Commission was appointed by the Board of Selectmen on the 18th of April, 1967.

 A number of people who were interested in Wrentham's history formed to help the Commission (Massachusetts law allows only seven members on the Commission). That group helped the Commission secure what is now known as The Wampum House at 677 South Street.

The Wampum House is used for Commission meetings, ( the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM ), and houses much of the town's collection of artifacts.
