Simply Collectible Books was formed by our love of the great books and stories that we grew up with and finding that others were just as interested in finding the books they remember as a child. We are located in the town of South Ogden nestled in the valley of the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah. Since we do not have a "normal" store to maintain we can keep our costs lower than many of our competitors. If you buy your book from someone else, don’t be surprised if the bookseller bought it from us for less.
How It All Started...
Our story is a simple one. It all began with a single book back in 1997.
Being an avid collector of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, I searched for the original book by Dodie Smith from the 1960’s. This put me in touch with a bookseller from Chicago who had the book I sought. After several e-mails with her I learned that her specialty was books on dogs and horses. Since we are from Utah, I was sure that there would be plenty of both around the area and offered to become a "picker" for her and search the area for these types of books. After a few searches I had accumulated a box full of such books, sent them to her, and received a nice profit from the sale...and found that I LOVED IT. My profits were increased even more when she told me that she had several 101 Dalmatian items from the 1960’s that would add to my collection. I ended up sending her books to pay for the items and in no time, I had bought almost everything in her collection.
Along the way, while looking for horse and dog books, I came across so many other great children’s books that I just had to have them. Well, needless to say through the years, I accumulated quite an inventory. I learned through her about how to start selling them on the Internet and VOILA...Simply Collectible Books was born.
Cataloging all the books was quite a nightmare but after it was all done and I listed them with the book sites, I was amazed that other people enjoyed these older books as much as I did. I also found that many booksellers would buy books from me that they would sell to their customers for considerably more. That is when I decided I needed to get more exposure and started this website. Now, after some time, this site shows up on search engines and the response has been quite great about all the information I have here.
My favorite books to find are the old school text books since they had such great stories and marvelous illustrations that I hadn’t seen in my children’s books or my grandchildren’s books. When I found my first Dick, Jane and Sally book (the series I grew up with), I was hooked for sure. Reading them again made me aware that these books talked of a family structure that is hardly found today, children using their imaginations, neighbors really talked to each other, going to town was something special, and that there was always love between parent and children.
Simply Collectible Books has proven to be great fun and excitement for me and I hope I can continue to do it for many years to come.
