DESCRIPTION: MUSI 271 is the third semester of an integrated two year music theory sequence. This course provides an introduction to the stylistic practices of music from the 19th century and from modern vernacular musics where appropriate. We will begin with a review of topics covered in Theories I and II. Then we will examine several melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and formal structures found in the music under consideration. MUSI 271 is coordinated with MUSI 271X and will parallel the concepts presented there as much as possible.
