DESCRIPTION: This course is a study of the aims, values, and implementation of fine arts in the elementary school.   Emphasis on the music portion of the course is on fostering creative growth and development in young learners through music.  This course includes application and exploration of various techniques and media.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  You will be held responsible for all information presented in class, including announced grade opportunities, and unannounced grade opportunities. Also, your participation in class or lack thereof may influence your final grade. Please do not disrupt the class by entering the classroom late.

ASSIGNMENT POLICY:  It is imperative that no assignments, quizzes, or tests are missed because all will be considered in awarding the final grade. Any assignment, quiz, or test may be comprehensive in nature. The tentative course outline provides completion dates for the assignments. Late assignments, and missed quizzes and tests will receive a grade of 0. "Late" means that the assignment is not turned in to the instructor at the beginning of the class period at which the assignment is due. The instructor may excuse one late assignment, missed quiz, or missed test if presented with a verifiable doctor's excuse or obituary. A make-up quiz or test may be administered in that one case only at the instructor's discretion. Under no circumstances will any student receive more than one makeup quiz or test. Under no circumstances will any makeups or late assignments be accepted after the last regularly scheduled class day of the semester. I will, of course, be happy to go over late assignments, missed tests, and missed quizzes for your own edification. The instructor reserves the right to administer unannounced quizzes at any time during the class period.

CLASSROOM POLICY: Proper classroom etiquette requires that you do not speak unless recognized by the professor. Raise your hand to speak. Also, eating, drinking, reading the paper, and leaving the classroom before class is dismissed is not proper classroom etiquette. All attention must be focused on the pedagogical tasks presented by the instructor. The instructor reserves the right to ask any student to leave the classroom if the instructor deems that a student's behavior is inappropriate and/or disruptive. Such student is obliged to leave the classroom immediately when asked without protest or question. A protest may be made or a question asked with respect to such dismissal in accordance with prescribed procedures.
