w/CD-ROM, Eighth Edition. New York: McGraw-Hill.
DESCRIPTION: This course is a historical
and aesthetic study of art and popular musics. Emphasis is placed
on
the western tradition, but attention is also given to nonwestern
musics.
Analytical listening is an integral part of this experience.
Representative masterworks are studied and consideration is given to
aesthetic functions and values and historical context. Preparing
for and attending a
live concert is an essential part of the course.
