AWA - Remco (1985-1986) A really nice group of figures. A lot of old-school wrestling fans remember Gagne's AWA, so looking back on these figures brings back a lot of memories. Most of the body types are very similar to each other, much like the Masters of the Universe figures. While the body types were poor matches of the actual wrestlers (let's face it - Jerry Blackwell was never in as good of shape as his figure), the faces, in many cases, were right on. In fact, it helped make up for undiverse body molds. Just look at figures like Rick Martel and Larry Zbyszko. Remco somehow found a way to capture the wrestler's faces very well without a whole lot of detail. It's really kind of uncanny. The faces were almost done like a characature, but not as overexagerated. Considering that these were some of the first wrestling figures made, I think it was a really good effort by Remco. Favorite figure: Larry Zbyszko |
