Issue
If the customer previously had dial-up and has switched to high speed internet and can't get pages to load, it may be because the internal modem is still active and attempting to use the old dial-up settings to connect.
Resolution:
The simplest way to deal with this is to disable the internal modem port in the Network System Preferences by following these steps.
If the customer sees this (or any) error in Internet Connect, follow the steps below to disable the internal modem.
- Click on the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.
- When System Preferences opens click on the Network icon.
- Click on Network Status and select Network Port Configurations.
- Note the Internal Modem port is checked and active.
- Remove the check mark next to Internal Modem and click Apply Now. The internal modem is now inactive.
- Click on Network Port Configurations and switch back to Built-in Ethernet.
- Ensure that Internal Modem is no longer in this list.
- When finished click on the System Preferences menu at the top of the screen and choose Quit System Preferences.
