Setting up Mac OS 10.3 for CHSI

This page contains a walk through for settings up Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) for Comcast High Speed Internet.

  1. Click on the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network icon.
  3. Locate and double click on Built-in Ethernet. You can also click the Configure button.
  4. These are the Network settings that need to be confirmed:
    1. The "Location" should be set to "Automatic."
    2. "Show" should read "Built-in Ethernet."
    3. The TCP/IP button should be blue.
    4. Ensure that "Configure IPv4" is set to Using DHCP. No other changes are needed in this window.

  5. Click the PPPoE button. Ensure that there are no check marks anywhere in this window.
  6. Click the AppleTalk button. Making AppleTalk active is a user preference. This is generally used for peer-to-peer file sharing.
  7. Click on the Proxies button.
    1. The image below is the default settings for the Proxies settings.
    2. Nothing needs to be changed in this window.

  8. Click on the Ethernet button. Ensure the "Configure" is set to Automatically. Also note this is a good way to find the Ethernet ID (MAC address) if you ever need it.
  9. When finished click System Preferences and choose Quit System Preferences from the menu.
