Mail Application First Run on Mac OS 10.3

This page contains a walk through of the setup assistant for Mac 10.3 Mail application. This assistant is only seen on the first launch of Mail.

  1. When opening Mail for the first time you will see this dialog box.
  2. Complete the account information:
    1. Full Name: Enter your name with standard capitalization.
    2. Email Address: Enter your comcast email address (in lower case letters).
    3. Incoming Mail Server: This box should contain the mail server name: mail.comcast.net in lower case letters.
    4. Account Type: Ensure this reads POP.
    5. User Name: The User Name is the email address without the "@comcast.net" part.
    6. Password: Enter the email password for this account.
    7. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): Enter in the mail server address as: smtp.comcast.net in lower case letters.
    8. Click OK when finished.

  3. After clicking OK Mail will verify the account information. If any information is incorrect this process will fail.
  4. If the verification process is successful you will be prompted to Import Mailboxes. Click No to expedite the setup process. Mailboxes can always be imported later.
  5. The dialog box below is designed to introduce you to the new enhancements in Mail. If you click Yes you'll be taken on a tour. If you click No it will take you right to the Mail interface.
