Description: This page contains a walk through on how to release/renew an IP address in Mac OS 10.3.
Symptoms: No network connectivity. IP address is "self assigned" 169.254.x.x
Goal: Follow these steps to generate a legitimate IP address.
- Click on the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences.
- When System Preferences opens click the
icon.
- Below are the Network System Preferences. You will be editing the settings for Built-in Ethernet.
There are three ways to access the settings.
- Double click on Built-in Ethernet.
- Ensure Built-in Ethernet is highlighted and click the Configure button.
- Click on Network Status and choose Built-in Ethernet.
- This is the Network settings with a "self-assigned" 169.254.x.x IP address.
- Click the
button.
- If the operation is successful a legitimate IP address should appear.
- When finished click on the System Preferences menu and choose Quit.
