- Download Internet Explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#IE.
- Click on Internet Explorer 5.1.7 for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x

- On the download page click on English (.hqx).
- Internet Explorer's Download Manager will open and the file wil be downloaded to the Desktop.
- The initial .hqx file that gets downloaded should decompress itself. If it does not, simply double click on it.
<- (.hqx = .zip on PC)
NOTE: Generally the file will decompress itself and may delete itself and disappear off the desktop. This is normal.
- After the .hqx decompresses the file on the Desktop will be labeled Internet Explorer 5.1.7.smi. Double click on this icon to open it.
<- NOTE: ".smi" means "self mounting image."
- After double clicking the .smi file you will see this dialog box:
<- Allow the progress bar to finish.
- This disk image will mount on the Desktop:
<- Double click on it to open it.
- After opening the disk image you will see this window:
- Double click and open the hard drive. Locate and open the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder.
- In Applications (Mac OS 9) you will find previous versions of Internet Explorer.
- Copy the Internet Explorer 5.1.7 folder to the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder. If the customer wishes he or she can remove the previous versions of Internet Explorer.
NOTE: Removing previous versions of Internet Explorer will not delete the customer's favorites.
- After copying the newest version will appear in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder. It's important to establish a new shortcut for the new version of Internet Explorer so old versions don't get opened by mistake.
- Open the internet Explorer 5.1 folder and click once to select the Internet Explorer icon. The icon will darken as show in the picture below.
- Got to the File menu at the top of the screen and select Make Alias.
- You will see the alias (aka Shortcut) appear next to the original. You will also notice the alias has an italic font. Drag the alias to the desktop. Ensure that this is the only alias to Internet Explorer on the Desktop.
