Description: Follow this procedure to release and renew an IP address in Mac OS 8.5-9.x.
Symptoms: Can not load web pages.
Goal: To get the Mac to pull a legitmate IP address.
- Click on the Apple Menu
. Mouse down to
. Click on TCP/IP.
- When the TCP/IP Control Panel opens:
- Click on Connect Via and change it from Ethernet to PPP.
- Ensure that the TCP/IP Control Panel looks like the image below*. Click the close button (outlined in red).
- After clicking the close button click the Save button to save the changes (this act releases the IP address).
- Re-open the TCP/IP control panel by clicking on the Apple Menu
. Mouse down to
and click on TCP/IP.
- When the TCP/IP Control Panel opens:
- Click on Connect Via and change it from PPP to Ethernet.
- The default setting for "Configure" is Manually. Click on Manually and select Using DHCP Server.
- Ensure that the TCP/IP Control Panel looks like the image below*. Click the close button (outlined in red).
- After clicking the close button click the Save button to save the changes (this act renews the IP address).
- Re-open the TCP/IP control panel by clicking on the Apple Menu
. Mouse down to
and click on TCP/IP.
- After the TCP/IP control panel opens make sure it has a legitmate IP address.
*If the TCP/IP Control Panel does not have the "Info" button that means the Mac has not been set up correctly for CHSI. Refer to the kb article for setting up CHSI in OS 9.x before proceeding.
