Adding a Protocol

This page is a walk through on how to add a protocol in Windows ME (and 98). You may need the Windows CD.

  1. Click Start --> Settings and choose Control Panels.
  2. Locate and double click on the icon
  3. Click the Add... button in the Network window.
  4. Click on Protocol and then click the Add...

  5. Select Microsoft and TCP/IP and click OK.
  6. You may see this dialog box requesting a disk.
    1. Insert the Windows ME (or 98) CD.
    2. Click the Browse... button.

  7. After clicking the Browse button you will see a dialog box like the one pictured below.
  8. The file may be located in the Windows directory, or you may need to locate the files on the CD.
  9. If the files are on the CD change the drive designation to D: and located the file. Ensure that the file name shows twice on the left side of the window as pictured below.
  10. After the files have been located click OK and Windows will copy the files. Windows will need to be restarted after copying the files.
