Installing a Cable Modem with USB
(RCA DCM315 and Windows ME in this example)
- Boot PC up normally and ensure the CD drive is empty. Ensure cable modem is on and plug the USB cable into an available USB port. You will see this dialog box* (Fig. 1).

- Ensure that Automatic search is selected and click Next (Fig. 2).

- Windows will not be able to locate the drivers. When the dialog box below (Fig. 3) appears insert the driver CD that came with the cable modem. Click the Browse button.

- Exit the the autoplay setup assistant if it opens after inserting the CD (Fig. 4).

- Change the drive designation from C drive to the CD-ROM drive (D: in this case). (Fig. 5)

- The driver is located on the top level directory of the CD. Make sure the file name appears twice on the left side of the window (Fig. 6) and click OK.

- Click OK in this dialog box (Fig. 7).

- Restart the computer (Fig. 8).

- After restarting check the Network Adapters in Device Manager to ensure cable modem is installed properly. (Fig. 9)

* This page was created with a fresh install of Win ME and the assumption that the cable modem has never been introduced to the computer. If there was a previous failed installation attempt of the cable modem Fig. 1 may read "Unknown device found."
