Karen, YOU are amazing!!
Day 3 brings me back to the greater Seattle area (not far from NW Hospital). Got to love the girls...a couple of them look like they could be part of the family...mugging for the camera :-)
I think I've shared mostly on the support from the crew, but we had a lot of support from individuals too.
Yummy treats! Grabbed some watermelon and pineapple-sweet and juicy!
Started near Northgate Mall; got to Greenlake a lot sooner than I could have driven it; skirted Fremont and came into Wallingford.
I asked these cheerleaders where they were from-I was thinking from a local high school. My appreciation deepened when they told me they were from Snohomish! I've been to Gas Works Park many, many times, but I must've never gotten there via this route. I loved the tile work. I remember thinking at the time that it should've been done in yellow tones. Of course, that would've probably prompted me into: "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" I might have been getting a bit loopy at this point, but "The Wizard of Oz" is one of my all-time, favorite movies.
Wow, post-work out stupids have extended into a second week! Oh wait a minute the fog's clearing...I was confusing last year's lunch here at Gas Works with this year-and I couldn't for the life of me remembering eating or even grabbing anything here. Geez! Just to set the record straight: Lunch was NOT at Gas Works.
Walking along the Burke-Gilman Trail towards UW.
You were thinking PWS again weren't you? Well, I didn't forget that I'd only explain the extra significance of day 1 and day 2. Day 3 happened to be the 4 year anniversary of being cancer free for the woman on the far right....definitely something to celebrate.
If you look VERY closely you'll see some kayakers down there-a lot of people out in boats, kayaks and canoes on this picture-perfect day.
What a treat!! Another day of gatoritas :-)
I ran into Nancy as we neared Capital Hill. I'd spotted her the first day-she'd gotten up and out of Opening Ceremonies before I did. I was hoping to meet up with her again. Happily I can report she's doing well. She's not able to run anymore due to her treatment but she continues to be the most upbeat person I've met. We continued in to lunch at Volunteer Park. She was waiting for her sister so I headed on my one after lunch.
I was glad to see one of the Seattle neighborhoods going all out with the decorations too.
I think it's like rubbing salt into a popped blister making the walkers go down the rather steep steps of Key Arena don't you?
I met this Karen (from Arizona) as we neared downtown and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her. I'd intended to stroll in the last day, but I think we matched our gait with our chatting....before we knew it we were done!
I should have held up my tshirt huh? Dumb. I would have worn my boas around my waist-that's where they ended up on day 1...just way too hot around my neck. A little known fact about moisture/sweat and boas: Boas smell funky once wet-no, it wasn't just my stinking sweat that ruined them. Boas: totally cute, but not all that practical.
I wanted to get a shot of my feet. OMG, I'm horrified!! Not so much with the sight of my blister (I successfully kept it from re-filling after popping Friday night) What scared me so was the size of my ankles-so filled out, gross!
I wanted to take me pictures of the end, but besides my memory card filling up my battery died...hmmm, might mean I have to do another walk.
The 2009 Seattle Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk brought in 5-5.5 million dollars. Thank you my dear supporters for all your efforts to help fight breast cancer.
