COMMON.GEAR's
"ELECTRONIC SWAPMEET" (a.k.a. our Classified Ads Page)
NOTE: As of January 2009, we've eliminted all pre-2008 ads on this page (and the 2008 ads aren't long for this world either, as of early 2010...). New-for-2010 entries to the various categories on this page are now be highlighted in RED again, since we had been using FUCHSIA for the new-for-'09 entries...

GENERAL RULES & ADVICE: This is a place where C/G visitors can advertise their antique VW stuff (cars, parts, literature, memorabilia, toys, etc.) for sale or wanted. If you have something you'd like listed here, please e-mail the Webmaster (CommonGear@aol.com) with your request, and we'll run it for a while. Please make sure it's antique-VW related, and try, if at all possible, to keep it somwhere within the 50-or-so word range. Publication of ads at discretion of the Webmaster; we also reserve the right to edit. Don't forget to include in your ad how you wish interested parties to contact you. Suggestion: on "for sale" items, please try to list an asking price. In general, we enjoy being on distribution for your "broadcast" ads, however we'd appreciate your specific request to have your ad listed on the Electronic Swapmeet page. We also are not interested in helping publicize your "ebay" auction items. Usually (though there are exceptions) the only times stuff gets deleted from this page are: 1) When people specifically request it, and 2) During our annual "Spring Cleaning" around March or so when we delete all the previous year's stuff (we usually don't periodically go back and check back on stuff, so if you have an obsolete ad running here that needs to be deleted, please let us know!).

FINAL VERY IMPORTANT NOTES: COMMON.GEAR and the Common Gear Antique Volkswagen Society assume no responsibility for the truth or accuracy of any ads or advertisers appearing on this page or anywhere else on this web site, and will not get involved in the settlements of any claims, however caused. Cars For Sale

From an e-mail dated 6/3/2010 from cpost452@gmail.com : "...'72 Volkswagen Super Beetle... I was just left, by my bets friend, a 1972 Super Beetle. Unfortunately I don't think I can keep it. He started to have it restored (i.e. rebuilt engine, body work, new paint job, etc.)... I don't really want to sell it because it is such a great car but, I may have to. If I do sell it, I would like to sell it to someone who would appreciate this VW, for it's age, it's history, and it's value, rather than just to some "use auto buyer"! Any ideas on who in your group I could contact?... Bill Postemsky home-860-228-0717, cell-860-428-7458..." (this ad posted 6/19/2010)

Cars Wanted

From the webmaster's own notes of 2/5/2010 (originally) and then 3/7/2010 (revised): "...THE SEARCH CONTINUES… Wow, was I right when I quipped that “it may take many years for me to find my ideal car”—little did I know how things would work out. I went and looked at a nice ’68 Karmann Ghia Convertible in early February 2010, and, what do you know, I didn’t fit in it with the top up! So, I am now rewording my wanted ad to the following: “I am looking for a solid, nice-driving antique Volkswagen Convertible to enjoy as a summertime commuter car. Since I sat in a ’68 Ghia Convertible recently and discovered I did not have enough headroom with the top up, I am now thinking more something like a ’67 or later Beetle Convertible (up to & including the ’70 model year) might be just the ticket. Also: manual transmission only please (I prefer to avoid the “auto-stick” cars). I would also certainly consider the right VW Type 181 “Thing”—although I think that’d be a compromise for highway driving (my daily commute does involve a good percentage of Interstate 95 here in Southern CT, and though I certainly am no “speed demon,” I am concerned about a car that can at least keep up a reasonable pace in the right lane). And I’m not ruling out Ghia Convertibles completely—I know I’ve sat in at least one where I’ve not had any appreciable headroom issues, so perhaps I may one day find one that “fits”… Anyway, I would appreciate your please keeping your eyes open for me (ideally something within a reasonable driving distance so that I could go and look at it first-hand)--and thanks for your help! Steve from SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405 or CommonGear@aol.com ..." (this ad posted 2/9/2010; revised as of 3/7/2010)

From the webmaster's own notes: "I am seeking original VW wheels, 16" diameter by 3" wide, that would be appropriate for an early split window VW Beetle ('52 & earlier), to refinish and use on my own car. They look a lot like the more common 15" diameter by 4" wide wheels that later Beetles used. View THIS ILLUSTRATION which illustrates the visual difference between the 16-inchers and the 15-inchers. If you have or know of any of these particular 16" VW wheels, in pretty much any shape (I have no problems re-clipping and/or refinishing), I am interested. Thanks!
