Overview

2012 marked the 34th Annual version of the “Time Machines” antique auto show & flea market, at the Guilford Fairgrounds in Guilford, CT, organized and run by the CT Area Classic Thunderbird Club. As usual, we sponsored the VW-only class, for all VWs, stock & modified, up to model year 1987 (in keeping with teh "25 years old or older" definition of an "antique auto"), in the show. We had a superb turnout, and this report hopefully documents each and every VW that participated. The official event dash plaque that every participating vehicle in the car show received is shown below. It was produced by Daytona Trophy, and I photographed it still in the protective plastic sleeve. As you can see, the design incorporated the "trucks and commercial vehicles" feature for Time Machines 2012.

And as we have been doing for the past several years, we also got some special magnetic dash plaques made up just for the participating VWs. As I usually do, I got them made up from "Rallye Productions, Inc." of Waukesha, WI. Interestingly, even before we had heard that "trucks and commercial vehicles" would be the feature for Time Machines 2012, I decided to use a graphic that came from a VW Type II owners manual cover, that featured a panel truck design--check it out below:

As usual, I tried my best to keep on top of all the incoming VWs, to write down names & hometowns to go with the vehicles--they will be presented along with the individual car photos that I took for this report..

And also as usual, a major note of thanks is due to the super people of  the Connecticut Volkswagen Association, who always turn out a superb number of great cars and enthusiastic people! Thanks again CVA guys and gals!

Thank You to all our VW Friends for making Time Machines 2012 yet another tremendous day for Antique Volkswagening in Connecticut!

List of Volkswagen Class Award Winners

Thanks to the owners of the top-quality antiques who participated this year and made the 2012 event yet another standout display of the best in Old Volkswagens!

Here are the judging results for the Time Machines 2012 VW-only class:

More of the People who made Time Machines 2012 Memorable and Fun

It's of course not just the cars that make our Antique Volkswagen Hobby so enjoyable and fulfilling--it is, of course, the people as well, of course. Here are a couple more photos from Show Day of some of the great people who made Time Machines 2012 a really enjoyable and fun day...

BELOW: Our old car friends who we know through the Central CT Region of AACA (in which they are mainstays), Mr. & Mrs. Steve Mackinnon. They were checking out Mrs. Webmaster's '63 Ghia at the time and were gracious to pose for a  photo! We really enjoy the annual Glastonbury car show that their organizatioin produces each year--here's a report on a recent one I was very pleased to be able to attend: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/GBURY11/Review.html

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Two great guys and very long-time friends through the old-VW hobby--none other than Bill Silvestri (left) and Fred Stedtler (right)! It appears Bill was wearing his "Fred Stetdler Tribute" t-shirt that day!

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Chuck Pisconski of Materseries fame (ref: Masterseries restoration coatings and supplies), and also THE MAN (founder, originator, chariman, chief cook & bottle-washer, etc.) of the legendary and long-running "Litchfield" and "Terryville" summertime VW enthusiast events! Chuck was vending in the Time Machines 2012 flea market. At one point I was able to catch another shot of him chatting with our VW friend from New Jersey, Fred Stedtler.

Time Machines 2012

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Clay & Mary Smith of "Das Bulli Haus" fame, from North Franklin, CT. They are a great couple and long time friends through the old VW hobby!

We enjoy doing our best to document each and every car that participates in the Time Machines car show VW class each year. As usual, we'll try to try go oldest to newest with our photos...

BELOW: Rich Bonsall's '58 Bug from Brooklyn, CT--and that's super-enthusiast Rich himself posing with it!

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Bob Dorr's '58 Bug, from Waterbury, CT. Bob is a very long time participant on the old-VW scene, and was the second president of the CT VW Association. I think the color of Bob's '58 is Capri Blue.

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Jose Medina's '65 Bug from New Haven, CT..

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: We don't know who owned this beautiful black '66 Bug Convrtible--it did not appear to have any car show registration, but was parked on the car show field, with a for sale sign. Presumably it was entered in the show, and the owner/seller decided not to display a windshield card--just the for sale sign. At any rate, it was a beauty! Coincidentally, we saw the same car show up at a CVA car show held at Montesi VW in North Haven, later in the fall, ref: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/CVAMontesi2012/ShowReport.html

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Fred Stedtler's '67 Bug from Mahwah, NJ. I don't know what's further, Lawrence, MA, or Mahwah, NJ--but both are healthy drives for sure!

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Steve Daroche's '69 Baja Bug from Canterbury, CT.

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Chris Arpine's '71 Super Beetle, from Woodbridge, CT.

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Jeremy Clayton's '71 Super Beetle, from Tolland, CT. I think that's Jeremy himself with the stylish hat visible behind the car. Jeremy recently retired after putting in 10 years as President of the CT VW Association (talk about a well-earned retirement!), and also was honored with a "Heroes of Volkswagening" award the previous year, reference: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/HEROES.html - and a photo of the Heroes awared plaque presentation to Jeremy appears on our Time Machines 2011 feature page: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/TimeMachines2011/TM11Report.html

Time Machines 2012

BELOW: Evaldo Pereira's "super patina" '71 Super Beetle, from Lawrence, MA. Gotta hand it to dedicated folks like Evaldo who drove such considerable distances to participate!

Time Machines 2012
