What is "Classical" Pilates?

How does Classical Pilates differ from other forms of Pilates?


- Metamorphosis Pilates and Fitness teaches in the Classical Pilates style. Classical Pilates is very specific in form, structure, and technique without trendy frills. We teach only Classical Pilates utilizing a successful, systematic, integrative program. You will walk away feeling the rewards of improved posture and better overall health.

- Because Classical Pilates has proven itself successful over the decades, we remain loyal to the original teachings of Joseph Pilates.

- Classical Pilates offers more than just mat training. Metamorphosis Pilates and Fitness offers a variety of exercise options. You can start your program as a beginner in a challenging system including apparatus and/or mat.

What is our new-member procedure?

New members are asked to complete a health history form listing any relevant injuries or health problems. This ensures that our instructors provide the best care for each individual client.

Can individuals with back problems practice Pilates?

Yes.

Metamorphosis Pilates and Fitness works often with individuals who suffer from back issues. Pilates helps elongate the spine, which leads to improved nerve function. It is essential that back problems and any other health issues are discussed with the instructor and your physician prior to beginning any exercise program. Metamorphosis Pilates and Fitness is able to create specific, tailored programs to fit most needs.

What is the Pilates "powerhouse"?

In Pilates, the core muscle groups of the body (the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks) are known as the "powerhouse". By focusing on these core muscle groups, Pilates practice enables individuals to sculpt longer and leaner muscles. Instructors lead a combination of exercises via precise sequencing to produce a low-intensity yet calorie-burning workout. Our clients lose inches while gaining in strength and flexibility.

What is the recommended apparel for a workout?

Exercise or yoga apparel. Loose or baggy shorts are not recommended.
