Here are some I found for you.... I have more as well...
watermain.jpg is at Garage 3, at Carver Loop and Coop City Blvd,
taken from my balcony on Bldg 14, perhaps 1971?
G3roof01 and G3roof02 are the helicopter placing the stupid roof
pieces in place on Garage 3, also taken from my balcony. I never
could figure out what those tiny things were supposed to protect you
against... heheheh.. also perhaps 1971?
If I dig deeply enough, I've got some similar photos, in color
(the helicopter was white and yellow) taken from our dinette window,
showing the helicopters putting HVAC equipment on top of the Educational
Park. I also don't know what the concrete blocks are for -- I thought
to protect nearby apartments from headlights, but maybe it's to keep
rain off certain areas between cars or over support beams. -dsc
Conner01 shows the view of Conner Street and Coop City Blvd from my
own apartment also in Bldg 14 later on (maybe 1976 or 77). Note the
NY Bus Service yard. An interesting thing about Conner Street was
when it snowed and iced over. We (my family) used to sit at the
kitchen window (on the 19th floor) in the early 70's and watch all
the cars come down Conner street too fast for the snow and ice. When
they hit the bend in the road, they would start crashing into the
parked cars on the island and the side of the road. Then, the same
drivers (hit and run, every one of them!) didn't learn, kept going
too fast, and would smash into more cars as the approached Coop City
Blvd, and some would still not learn, and go too fast trying to get
onto Coop City Blvd. The same driver would often hit 5 or 6 cars by
time he made it onto the Blvd and kept going. Hey, remember, this
was before VCRs and Computers. Back then, THAT was entertainment!!!!
hehehe
That end of Connor Street is actually Peartree Avenue. As of 1999,
I understand that the lot contains a new shopping center. Connor and
Peartree come together at the oblique angle in the background, by
the buses. The 10475 Post Office was built there in the late 1970s. -dsc
Conner02 shows the other end of Conner street where it goes over
I-95. The only interesting thing about this photo is the price of
gas!
Casals shows the park area between Bldgs 12 & 13, and the Hutchinson
River beyond.
I'm not sure where the scanner shear comes from. -dsc
Anyway, hope you enjoy them, and hope to see them soon on your web site.
