Co-op City

Contributed Section 5 Pictures

This page has Section 5 pictures Kathy sent me, with her descriptions. Lots of pictures taken from the apartment with snow on the ground: I always thought that was a dramatic picture.

It's my intention to add any more that I get to this page, until they need more organization. If you want to send any pictures to me please make it clear that it is OK to post them here, and if you want give me a title and description for the picture, so I don't have to guess. I try to make all the pictures here sharp, bright, contrasty, and no wider than 512 pixels and degraded (lossy JPEG or few-color GIF) to be no more than 20 or 30 kb in size, for faster loading. If the picture isn't that way I'll use my judgement as to cropping, resizing, and so forth -- and if you don't like what I do, tell me and I'll pull it and we can work together.

Historic Village of Baychester
View from Building 30 towards homes outside Section 5. For some reason we called the the Shacks. Off in the distance you can see I-95.
At one time there was a sign declaring that section "The Historic Village of Baychester". A bunch of houses, many below street grade. They must have hated it when Co-op City went up.

Andrea's Section 5 Page

Andrea had a Co-op City reunion in 1999. I've had a link to her old photos on the introductory page for this site for years; her main Co-op City page, for the reunion, is here. The gracious contributor of the pictures on this page is pictured there as well.
