Co-op City is divided into five sections for administrative purposes. Only Section 5, the part east of the Hutchinson River Parkway and south of Bartown Avenue, is regularly identified by its section number. For a breakdown by sections see CasalsK's Co-op City Home Page FAQs and Section Breakdown tables. Very roughly, Section 1 is the northwest, the 'D's; Section 2 is the northeast, the 'C's around Carver Loop, and adjoining bit around Dreiser Loop; Section 3 is the southeast, the 'B's around Bellamy Loop and the east half of Asch Loop; and Section 4 is the southwest, the west half of Asch Loop. Street names in Section 5 start with the letter 'E'. Note that the official site plan is printed in what we now call landscape orientation, with West up, North to the right.
This diagram shows the layout of the 12 apartments on
one of the 32 residential floors of Building 7, a typical
Tower building.
The light and dark green apartments have one bedroom and
one bathroom; the light and
dark blue apartments have two
bedrooms and one bathroom (in both cases the livingroom is
angled, near the center of the "X"; then comes the
kitchen/dinette, and then off the private hallway, which
parallels the common corridor, shown in magenta, the second
bedroom if present, the bathroom, the linen closet, and the
master bedroom. The entrance to the apartment is opposite
the dinette door); the orange
apartments have three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms,
and a balcony.
This is an official floor plan of a 3-bedroom, 6½-room
apartment in a Tower building.
In later-built buildings (perhaps all but Section 1) there
were additional small bedroom windows which I've drawn in
in green.
Note that this apartment has seven closets: One in each
bedroom, one outside the full bathroom, and one in
the entry hall (each with two bi-fold doors), a linen
closet, and a broom closet as part of the hall closet.
