ATHY students have shown their expertise at writing in a foreign language and are among the prize winners in an essay competition organised by the Austrian Embassy in Dublin.

Their work was on show at a special exhibition in the Embassy on Tuesday last.

Second prize in the “Special Prize” category went to Denise Whelan, Wolfhill, Athy, who is a student at Scoil Mhuire, Athy. Her teacher is Ms. A Foley who also taught the third prize winner. She was Charlene Molloy, Booleigh, Nurney, also a Scoil Mhuire pupil.

Sixth prize in the competition went to Helen Noud, Kilrush, Athy with eighth prize going to Joanne Malone, Ardreigh, Athy. 12th prize was awarded by Valerie Kavanagh, Oaklawn, Athy. The girls are also students of Scoil Mhuire Athy and are taught by Ms. Foley.
