Ford Genealogy Club Meeting March 14 minutes

There were no members looking for assistance in the 5:00 to 5:30 timeframe. The March meeting was called to order by the president, Karen Krugman at 5:30. The vice president, Diane Oslund reviewed where the newsletters are presently distributed to other genealogy clubs and societies. She stated that there is not much response from the groups that are supposed to be on an exchange program with us. She suggested that if this continues, we stop sending copies to them. As a result of group discussion, it was decided that Diane would treat the future distribution of newsletters on an individual basis at her discretion.

Three handouts were distributed, the latest copy of the newsletter, The Rearview; a copy of the microfilm and microfiche records on permanent loan at the LDS center in Westland, MI; and the FGC schedule for the remainder of the year. It was noted that the May meeting's topic, Genealogy Programs used by members, needs someone to discuss Family Tree Maker. Anyone familiar with the program who would like to share their experiences at the May meeting, please contact Diane Oslund diane@dianesgenealogy.com .

The April meeting's speaker will review newspapers of Michigan. We will also hold election of officers for the club. The present officers indicated they would be willing to serve a second term, with the exception of the Treasurer, Mark Krugman, who is already serving an extra term. Bob Beiting offered to serve as Treasurer for next year. The present officers are: President, Karen Krugman; Vice-President, Diane Oslund; Secretary, Mike Brautigan; and Treasurer, Mark Krugman. If any other member, other than Bob, is interested in running for office, please forward your name to Diane Oslund before the next meeting.

Karen Krugman presented an interesting program on past Mayors of the City of Detroit. There was a handout with some very nice pictures of their cemetery markers in Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit and brief biographies of the Mayors. There was further discussion of Elmwood Cemetery and photo techniques for cemetery visits in general.

The program was followed by a round robin of problems and discoveries by all members in attendance.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 and all interested parties were invited to meet at the Red Robin Restaurant on Ford Road to share dinner and fellowship.
