Independent/Self-Guided Study Courses For Teachers

"Travel Courses"
and
"Non Travel Courses"

Travel Courses: Travel is by the teacher's private car. Teachers may enroll any time during the year.

A weekend (or any two days) in the historic site area will allow the teacher/student time to complete On-Site Visitation requirements for each of the five Self-Guided (Independent) Study (Travel) Courses offered by Bob and Elaine Kirchner. Off-site requirements may be completed at home, and the teacher has up to one year to complete all requirements.

The five Travel Courses shown in the Menu to the left (Mother Lode, Gold Rush, Monterey, Los Angeles, and Missions) are Self-Guided (Independent) Travel Courses designed to help teachers become more knowledgeable about the history of California. Each Travel Course is unique in its purpose, requirements, assignments, materials and visitation sites.

Inasmuch as travel is by the student's private car, the Self-Guided (Independent) study format permits the busy teacher/student to "self-determine" when to complete on-site visitation requirements. It also permits the student an opportunity to have family/friends share in both the "home" and "on-site" learning experiences.

Non-Travel Courses: The Four Virtual Courses, shown at left and below are also Independent Study Courses; however, travel IS NOT required. These courses can be completed in the comforts of and convenience of the teacher’s home. They also are designed to help teachers become more knowledgeable about the history of California. Each of the courses offered is unique in its purpose, requirements, assignments, and materials.

Fresno Pacific University

ACCREDITATION

Fresno Pacific University is a Christian liberal arts university located in the southern part of California’s great Central Valley.  The University is situated on a 42-acre campus in Fresno, California, between the high Sierra Nevada mountains and the Pacific Ocean.  The campus is in the southeastern section of Fresno - a growing metropolitan community with a population of more than 900,000.

The university began as Pacific Bible Institute in 1944.  After a transitional junior college phase, Fresno Pacific College received Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation in 1965, the same year in which the first bachelor of arts degrees were granted.  A fully accredited graduate program in education was initiated in 1976, and in January 1997, the institution became Fresno Pacific University.
