Postcards on the Fridge-May 7, 2005 / 050305
Yup'ik Eskimo woman's boots, ca. 1920.
March 22, 2005 This must be my month for French women: this card is from Pearl who spent a big part of spring break in Manhattan where the original National Museum of the American Indian and loved every minute of it. Although she found the city dirty and the people rude (what? in New York? no way....) she'd go back tomorrow if she could. Hmmm. I recall feeling the same way a decade or so ago when I went. But, Pearl, the next time you go, you must go to the top of the Empire State Building—twice, in fact: once during the day and again at night. For the nerds out there, the postcard adds this info about the boots: Caribou hide, bearded seal skin, wool cloth, glass beads.
