Kyle Jackson - Pitcher from Litchfield, NH

kylejackson

Kyle has worked his way through the Red Sox system and appears to be on the fast track to Fenway Park. Jackson is currently pitching for Boston's AA affililiate, the Portland Sea Dogs.

Jeffrey Locke - Pitcher from Conway, NH

lockeOverview:

The Braves didn't take any chances, drafting Locke with their 4th overall pick. The consensus before the draft was that Locke would get picked up by his childhood favorite Red Sox or the Braves. Seeing as how the Braves went away from their southeast/signability tendencies shows that he could be a very special pitcher. He was ranked 60th in Baseball America's preseason top 100 (and the top prospect in the NE) and possesses an excellent makeup.

On the mound: Locke's best pitch is a low to mid-90's heater that he throws with better than average control. His motion is very loose which bodes well for maintaining his velocity as his matures. His breaking stuff is inconsistent although he's flashed plus potential with the pitch in the past. His future as a starter will ride on improving the command on his secondary offerings, but by most accounts, the command will come. His mechanics are a bit jerky, which could be cutting into his secondary pitche control/command, or even cause injury down the road, but that isn't uncommon for high school pitchers. He has quick arm action and doesn't spend a lot of time fiddling about on the mound. A true pitcher through and through.

Intangibles: Locke possesses tremendous confidence on the mound which may come from being the top prospect in a region somewhat devoid of high ceiling talent. His general makeup is rated off the chart which you know got Braves brass sexually excited. He loves to pitch which is a good sign that he is willing to work on whatever he needs to work on to be successful.

Summary:

If the Braves manage to sign him (better than average chance) then they have a good one on their hands. I would compare him somewhat to Beau Jones (the Braves second pick last year) except with more polish. The lack of solid competition worries you somewhat, but he's got the natural tools that should allow him to adapt quickly.

In 3 years, I think we'll be looking at Locke as the best pitcher we drafted this class.

Brian Wilson - Pitcher from Londonderry, NH

Jeff Fulchino - Pitcher from Hollis, NH

Matt Tupman - Catcher from Concord, NH

matttupman

Matt is currently playing in AAA for the Omaha Royals, very close to making it to Kansas City. While the Royals have been pretty poor over the past 15-20 years they are starting to churn out some great prospects such as Alex Gordon. "I'm at a point in my career where they have to look at me a sa Major Leaguer, or my career is over", said Tupman in a recent article. Tupman had a very good spring training but unfortunately there were two big league catchers already in place. The Royals catcher Jason LaRue has just one year left on his contract which could mean a spot in the big leagues for Tupman. Be sure to stay tuned as Tupman could be just a phone call away.
