Motorcycle Damage

Here are a selection of pictures taken of my 2004 Yamaha Midnight Star two days after my harrowing run-in with a cougar.

Overview shot of the right wide of the bike, which is where the damage is localized. These were all taken at the local Yamaha dealership as we discussed how much I wanted them to fix vs. how much I wanted to take care of.

Closer view of the front end. Fortunately, the forks did not get damaged, but the turn signal and headlight got munched pretty good. The bars got bent, too, according to the tech. I'll have to trust him on that one.

Close-up of the headlight. You can see the yellow road paint embedded in the massive dent. Nice shape, huh?

Right mirror. Obviously broken.

Left mirror. I think one just came loose.

Point of impact. The tech was a little disappointed that they didn't find any fur stuck to the leading edge of the fender, so I had to send him pictures to prove my tale. Near as I can tell, the fender cut into the tire when the bike hit the pavement, so I'll be getting the tire replaced, too.

Right side damage: Gas tank, air filter cover, floorboard and brake pedal (not shown in this shot), seat, and the heat shield of my new Doolies.

Notice the large dent in the front of the tank and the reflection of the goober taking the picture...

The gas tank got scratched up a fair bit, but I did discover a new use for the Roadstar tank emblem...

Small dents and scratches on top of the tank - probably caused by me as I exited the bike

Close-up of the floorboard and brake pedal. Scratchy scratchy.

Scratches on the seat (looks like it's time for a Mustang...) and exhaust pipe.

My new Roadhouse Doolies (sob!) I'm sure they still sound good, though. As a friend at work noted: "Perhaps your pipes scared the cougar into running across the road..."

The back only seems to be sporting a busted up turn signal, although the right bracket for my Rumbling Pride flag got bent, too. The impact was so hard that it scrambled my license plate numbers...
