One Touch Auto Down Window

Those of you who have power windows know our cars did not come with the automatic one touch down window controls. This article will explain how to incorporate this function into your car.

To complete this modification you need the module from a 2nd generation Taurus/Sable. It is located behind the door panel, underneath the arm rest. Make sure to get as much wire as possible. The part number for this is F2DB-14B118-AB and can run for as much as $50 from the dealer, or only a few bucks from a yard. If you want this only for the driver’s window, one module will be needed.

Above is a picture of the module and I have the wires numbered for ease of installation. Here is what the wires will be connected to:

Wire #1 – Motor side of the down wire
Wire #2 – Switch side of the down wire
Wire #3 – 12 volt
Wire #4 – Up wire
Wire #5 – Ground

- Remove the door panel from your car.

- We will go in numerical order in connecting the wires from the module. Make sure to leave about 4” of wire between the switches and your cuts incase of error.

- Take a test light and find the wire that is Window Down. Take note that the test light will only light when the switch is pressed. Once found, completely cut through this wire, leaving enough room to butt splice on either end. Take the end going into the door and connect that to the #1 wire from the module. Take the other end, leading to the switches, and connect that to the #2 wire from the module. Wrap both connections with electrical tape.

- Next, use the test light to find the wire that supplies the 12 volt source for the switches. Perform an inline splice with this wire and connect wire #3 from the module here. Wrap with electrical tape.

- Use the test light once again to locate the wire for Window Up. Perform another inline splice and connect wire #4 from the module here. Wrap with electrical tape.

- Locate any solid black wire from the switches as this will be the ground. Make another inline splice and connect wire #5 from the module here. Wrap with electrical tape.

- Test the function before reinstalling the door panel. Once confirmed that everything is working, you need to mount the module behind your door panel. There isn’t much room, but it’s doable. Use some duct tape if needed to attach to the inside panel.

- Reinstall your door panel and enjoy the luxury of auto down windows.
