Tolkien, JRR Tolkien, Tolkien, Lord of the Rings, The Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion, The Silmarillion, Hobbit, The Hobbit, encyclopedia, map, maps, chronicle, The Encyclopedia of Arda, Arda I've always had an interest in science fiction and fantasy.  It's been a while since I've read anything in book form so perhaps my personal favorites are a bit dated.  On the other hand, one of those favorite authors from the past is new again thanks to the magic of the movies... J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.  The first time I read The Hobbit brought both envy and empathy for Bilbo Baggins, desiring only to continue a quiet life in his hole yet compelled to adventure with a hope of great accomplishment.

 The grandeur and scale of these movies truly deserve appreciation on a full size, theater screen at least one time. Perhaps an innovative theater owner will think to show all three films as a "triple feature"?!?!

Time and Space?

Stargate SG-1...  based on the mythology created in the movie Stargate, this hybrid sci-fi/action/sitcom television program originally air on Showtime but is now shown on the Sci-Fi Channel (both owned by Vivendi) and in syndication.  One of many reasons I enjoy the series is actor Richard Dean Anderson, a.k.a. MacGuyver.

Another favorite author is Robert A. Heinlein.  So often the settings of his books were so ordinary that the fantastic aspects seemed quite possible or even probable.  The ideals and social commentary weren't obvious to me while reading the books as a young man, only lately have I recognized those references in his work.
