Grades 3-5, 40 minutes |
| ... integrates classical music with standard educational curriculum, specifically vocabulary, geography, and science. We will explore the art of music as conversation and each instrument will provide a demonstration that will touch upon basic language and science concepts that are tangibly presented for this age group. The trio is built by solo, duo, and then trio format. The students will also hear woodwind instruments from around the world and have an opportunity to test their geographical knowledge by pointing out countries on a map. | |
| Music: Origins & Construction | |

| ... introduces the flute, oboe and cello and hand-crafted instruments from other countries. Geography is incorporated and students will locate these countries on a map. They will discover basic physics of how sound is produced on original and modern instruments. We will also explore some of the many techniques that composers use to write music (imitation, form (ABA), melody & accompaniment) and will delve into some complex rhythms and dissonance of more contemporary music. A few students will be invited to participate with us in performing an African drumming song. | |
