Congratulations to Irv Sherwood for being selected by The Naples Daily News and The Bonita Daily News to receive the Jefferson Award for the month of September for his exemplary public service to our community.  In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service in order to create a Noble Prize for public and community service.  Five years later, the newspapers and television stations began the Jefferson Awards Media Partnership in identifying “Unsung Heroes.”  With this selection, Irv is eligible for national honors recognizing selfless and significant public service.

As you know, Irv Sherwood has been President of the Southwest Florida Golf Charities, Inc. since 1996.  For the past 19 years, the Southwest Florida Golf Charities, Inc. has sponsored the Bill Owen Classic, which is the longest consecutively held golf event in Collier County.  During the time the charity golf event has been held, $1,220,000, with another $45,000 in matching funds, has been gifted to local high schools for college scholarships, support for local high school golf programs, donations to the Hospice of Naples, Marco Island and Immokalee, scholarships for Florida Gulf Coast University Golf Management Program, donations to the Care Club of Collier County, support for the Eagle Creek Tennis and Golf Summer Camp, and money given to local individuals and organizations in need of financial support.  This was only made possible by Irv’s leadership and dedication.

The 20th Anniversary of the Bill Owen Classic will be held on Monday January 26, 2009.

The wall between EC and Lowe's is finished and looks nice.....haven't heard any bad comments about it yet.  They haven't begun any thing at the Lowe's lot.  A sign on Staple's front door says it will open on August 9th.....that probably really will happen as there has been a lot of action there lately.
At Eagle creek we have a handsome eagle perched in front of the club house.  In the back, around the putting green, they have built up a nice retaining wall and added a flower bed where a tree used to be close by.  It looks nice!

Has the construction started on Lowe’s, yet?  How about the wall, has that been erected and if so how does it look?

I understand that there have been some changes in the office.  Any   truth to  that?

I recently spoke to a few homeowners in Eagle Creek regarding the new standard for tile only roofs.  They were unaware of this new rule.  When and how will everyone be told of this decision?  Hurricane season is here and everyone should know what their potential expense might be if their roof is destroyed.

Collier County Commissioners had their budget workshop this  past week, wherein it was stated that there were 3,400 foreclosures last  year.  The Commissioners were told to expect more foreclosures  this year, possibly between 7,000 to 10,000.

Jack Antaramian was interviewed last week, where he  stated that the housing market has not yet hit the bottom.  He said it  will be two more years before the recovery begins to take place.  He  said the banks have done a good job in cleaning up their books; however, the  banks now have a large inventory of foreclosed properties.  He feels  the banks will begin placing these houses on
the market, which will further  depress the prices, and only after getting rid of this excess  inventory will the prices begin to recover.

Jack Antaramian said the commercial real estate market has  been stable; however, because of the commercial developer mentality of the past  years of "build it and they will come," there is an excess of commercial  property.  He said the developers are now beginning to drastically reduce  rents and provide other incentives to get tenants for their vacant  properties.  He thinks this is only the beginning, and that the commercial  real estate market will be hit hard.  He feels several of the developers  will go bankrupt over the next couple years.

Footnote: Remember the property at the corner of  Goodlette-Frank and US 41, across from 5th Avenue, that Antaramian fought hard  to own a year or so ago?   Antaramian is now trying to get the City of  Naples to buy it from him at a price substantially less than he paid for it in  2005.

The South Regional  Library should be completed this Fall; however, it will not  open until at least the Spring of 2009 because the electrical, telephone and IT  services are all coming from the Emergency Operations Center, which won't be  completed until then.  Also, Collier County does not have the funds to  staff and provide books for the library, so there may be additional  delays.

Donna Fiala has won the election as Collier County Commissioner District #1 without having to complete the whole campaign.  The end of the qualifying period was at noon today, June 20th, and she had no opponent, which means she is automatically elected.

She thanks the Eagle Creek community for its support.
"I will continue to pour my heart and soul into my mission to make our community a better place to live, a wonderful place to enjoy, and a safe and happy place to raise your family and socialize with your friends.  We are so fortunate to live in our little part of the world and to have friends we can rely on.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

Wow!! How about that EC survey?

I agree with some of the results, but, I can't believe a few of them.

Any comments?

Why has there been no chat with reference to the roofing project that Condo 5  asso.has issues with.  This problem effects all assoc.'s in EC.  If we can be railroaded so can you.  Just because you leave here, doesn't mean all the issues affecting us goes away.  You need to know that what you wish as a community has no relevance.  Your elected officials will manipulate the issues until they do as they wish.  The Architectural Review Board rears their head only when the powers that be want things done their way. Please take time to find out how Condo 5 Asso. members are now battling  with their elected officials to simply get what they all want.
