Here are some fun pictures I've run across online or in books I was reading. The images are not
ordered by subject matter; instead, the most recently-added ones are always at the top of the page.
In most cases I've got larger originals; if there's something you'd like, just mention it in the
Forum.
[P.S.-- Most of these images are cheap-ish jpgs, but there
are now nine of them, so give the page a few seconds to load. :-) ]

I don't know anything specific about this photo, unfortunately,
except that it's a cricket bat factory, presumably in England, in the 1930s.

.
In 1932, an Australian team including Donald Bradman toured North
America. The visit was organized by Canadians but included US stops, one of which found the Aussie
team at Yankee Stadium to take in a baseball game. Babe Ruth was sidelined with an injury and sat with
the visitors, making this historic photo possible. [For more info on that tour, see my
"Extras" page.]

.
Lord's, 29 July 1944: there's a pause in the game as a V-1 bomb
flies low overhead. But the British are made of sterner stuff: after the bomb passed and struck another
part of London, the players got up and Jack Robertson hit the next ball for six. [Thanks to
Neil Bostock
for the scan and information!]

.
Gotta love this field! I picked this picture up at the website
of a local
cricket club (yes, we have local cricket clubs in the US), who were challenging people to
identify the ground, the match, and the participants. I could do none of those, but a friend from my
cricket chat suggested that it was Dennis Lillee bowling to Dayle Hadlee or Bevan Congdon (probably the
former) in a match between New Zealand and Australia at Lancaster Park, Christchurch, in February of
1977. [Agree?]

.
Sorry this one's so dark, but I still think it's neat. It's Lords,
that Mecca of cricket grounds, evidently after one of those not-infrequent English rains. Amazing
rainbow! I'm not sure of the date... summer 2000?

.
And here's the image that used to be this website's logo.
"Cricketer Huck" is number 33 of 35 candy cards in the series "T.V.'s Yogi Bear and
Friends" produced in England in 1971.

.
Now here's a curiosity! Elton John at the wicket. This
image was cropped from a scan of a poster that I saw someone auctioning on eBay once, but I understand
that it also appears on the back of one of his albums-- "Captain Fantastic," perhaps?

.
Fans of the long-running BBC programme "Doctor WHO"
ought to remember Peter Davison's stint as Doctor number 5 in the early 1980's. His peculiar
affectation of dress (every Doctor had one) was cricketing togs, and here he poses in front of his
TARDIS for some batting practice. I've no idea whether this shot comes from some episode I never saw,
or is just a fun production still.

.
And here's something different! A serilithographic print featuring
the art of Warner Brothers animator Robert McKimson, it's entitled (ready?) "Out For a Duck!!!"
A rare instance of Bugs not getting the best of an opponent, I guess... [FYI, I don't own the original.
Only 125 were made, the first 10 being artist's proofs; while they're not obscenely expensive, they're
a tad out of my price range. But
these folks
sometimes put one up for bid at
eBay,
if you're interested in trying to find a copy.]
