DOWNSTATE - For the second straight night, a top Henlopen Conference
girls basketball team tangled with a Catholic Conference power.
And, for the second straight night, the Henlopen Conference team came
away with a win.
Caesar Rodney High got 17 points from freshman Brittani Shells,
including a short jumper with 15 seconds remaining to secure a 49-47
victory over St. Elizabeth.
The win comes one day after Seaford upset Ursuline 39-38.
The Riders (12-7) received a balanced effort on offense and defense,
with Patricia Millner collecting 10 points, Mickie Younger scoring eight
and Nakia Anderson grabbing 10 rebounds while playing with a sore wrist.
"That effort was a key for us," said CR coach Bill Victory.
The Vikings' star freshman, Khadijah Rushdan, fouled out with 5:35
left in the game after scoring 24 points. From there, the St. Elizabeth
offense struggled against a pressing Riders team.
"There were a lot of fouls," said Victory, who saw his team make
18-of-24 free throws. "Our kids really battled." |
