May 20 - 31, 2002
Each year we take one or more cruises. We plan these trips well in advance, taking advantage of early booking discounts and other promotional offers.
To date this has not posed a problem. Unfortunately, this time it is a different story.
With less than three weeks to our sail date, with tickets already in hand, we got that dreaded phone call informing us of a sudden short dry dock for the Celebrity Summit on April 8th,
the date we were to have begun an
11-night sailing to the Western Caribbean.
The Summit would begin sailing again on April 12th with a shortened 7-night itinerary to the Western Caribbean.
The shortened cruise meant it wouldn't be going to it's farthest port, Aruba, and also many of the other ports would be changed.
We had our heart set on seeing Aruba, so this alternate cruise wasn't for us.
Luckily, her sister ship, Celebrity Millennium,
would begin sailing the identical itinerary starting April 29th with a Captain's Club reunion cruise.
We inquired about the Captain's Club sailing, and found out that was sold out as was the cruise the following week.
The earliest we could reschedule would be the May 20th sailing.
Read on to learn more about this cruise and the ports of call we visited.
We sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, FL with ports of call in
KEY WEST, FLORIDA
COZUMEL, MEXICO
PUERTO LIMON, COSTA RICA
COLON, PANAMA
CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA - Port Cancelled
ORANJESTAD, ARUBA
GRAND CAYMAN
During embarkation, we received a letter advising us that we would not be making the scheduled stop at Cartegena, Columbia due to political unrest. Instead, we would be extending our stay in Aruba. We had learned about this prior to our departure, so this wasn't a surprise.
Learn more about these Ports of Call by visiting the websites listed above or Celebrity's website.
