Our first port of call was Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is the wettest city in the U.S. and the flower capital of the world. It is the site of Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii's best-known attraction.

Volcanoes National Park The tour we took in Hilo was Volcanoes National Park . It was an 4 hour tour that started with with a drive through charming Hilo. Then continued through the lush tropical forest to Volcanoes National Park, 4,300 feet above sea level, where we visited the Jagger Museum and rode along the 11-mile Crater Rim Drive . We experienced firsthand the wonder and unique beauty of Hawaii's volcanoes from the many viewpoints. Two kinds of lava, smooth and jagged, lava tubes, sulphur banks, and bleak desert areas were seen. Lunch was served at a restaurant located within the National Park.

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory Heading back towards Hilo, we stopped at the popular Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory for shopping. The factory is closed on Sundays, so make sure you visit on another day or you'll only be able to visit the gift shop.

Hilo is on the Big Island of Hawaii. Take a Virtual Tour of Hawaii Big Island or take a Virtual Tour of Hilo. Here is an excellent source for Hilo, Hawaii Resources (maps, weather, links) .

Our next stop was Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Continue with Kona or choose a page from the drop down list above. Don't forget to check out the Hilo Photo Album for more tour pictures. Here's some Music to listen to as you view these pages.
