Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Legend of the Seas - Hawaii Monday - Tuesday, Dec. 16-17, 2002
Our next port of call was
Lahaina, Maui, Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaiian phrase "Maui No Ka Oi" means "Maui is the best." You'll agree after a visit to the enchanting "Valley Isle" .   Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands.
There were several shore excursions that sounded appealing to us including the Hawaiian Luau Dinner. Since we were staying in Maui two days, we decided to book the Luau Dinner.
We had a 45 minute bus ride to the Luau Dinner. By the time we got there, the sun was starting to set. It made a beautiful backdrop for the stage where the dancers would perform after dinner. The meal was traditional fare including roast pig with all the trimmings.
The Adventure to Hana also interested us. We debated about renting a car and doing the drive ourselves or taking the organized tour. Our travel agent told us we might be able to book a car through the Purser's Desk onboard. We decided to rent a car for the first day and take organized tours for the evening and the second day. Pictured here is the type of scenery you see on the way to Hana.
Another tour that sounded interesting was the Maui Whale Watch. When we were in Alaska, we went on a nature cruise that included whale watching. Since we had such a good time on that tour, we decided to do it again in Hawaii. December is the beginning of the whale watching season in Hawaii. They migrate here for the winter.
Most of the other tours were 4 hours or longer, so we needed something shorter to combine with the whale watching. We decided to book the Atlantis Submarine tour which was only 2 hours. That way we'd get to see the tropical fish and coral from a different perspective. If you want to learn more, see the Atlantis Submarine home page for tours in Hawaii and other ports of call.
Three were other tours that interested us but didn't fit in our schedule. The Iao Valley And Maui Tropical Plantation
also sounded like an excellent tour. On this tour you visit two of Maui's most popular attractions: Iao Valley and Maui Tropical Plantation.
I've included information on shopping and dining for planning purposes. If you want to see live pictures from Maui, check out these webcams .
Our next stop was Nawiliwil, Kauai, Hawaii. Continue with Maui or choose a page from the drop down list above. Don't forget to check out the Maui Photo Album for more tour pictures.
Backgrounds by Marie has lots of backgrounds which can be downloaded for free as long as the pages are for personal use and as long
as you include a link to their site. This background came from their collection.
