Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Legend of the Seas - Hawaii Thursday - Friday, Dec. 19-20, 2002
Our final port of call was
Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. This is the capital of Hawaii. It is famous for Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach.
After disembarking our ship in Honolulu, we headed by bus to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel in Waikiki. Since my wife is an HHonors member, they upgraded our room to a high floor corner room with partial ocean view. The picture at the left was taken from our balcony. This is really a beautiful hotel; we are so glad that we decided to extend out stay in Hawaii there.
Since we were given an upgraded room, it wasn't ready when we got there, so we decided to walk around the grounds while my son went to the Marine base. As we were walking along the pathway, my wife told me that there were penguins in Hawaii. Of course I didn't believe her. But she soon proved me wrong. South American penguins are residents of the Hilton. Besides the penguins, there were exotic birds and flowers along the paths.
We decided to get some lunch at one of the beach-side cafes and then went to the Mandara Spa to make massage appointments. Since our room wouldn't be ready until after our massages, the front desk staff arranged for us to use a hospitality room to get changed.
On Friday, we headed to the USS Missiouri Memorial and then on to the USS Arizona Memorial. At the USS Missiouri, you have several options for the type of tour you'd like. We opted for the self-guided tour. We did this because our son needed to get back to the hotel in time for his parasailing appointment.
After leaving Pearl Harbor, we took a drive to the
Punchbowl National Cemetery. We climbed the stairs you see in this picture and looked at all the memorial tributes to those that have gone before us in battle.
This day was definitely very sombre, especially since this was December just a few days after the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. These three locations should be on the top of your list on your visit to Honolulu. Please remember this is sacred ground and act accordingly.
I've included information on shopping and dining for planning purposes. If you want to see live pictures from Honolulu, check out these webcams .
This concludes our stay in Hawaii. We wish you Aloha. Continue with any page from the drop down list above. Don't forget to check out the Oahu Photo Album for more tour pictures.

as you include a link to their site. This background came from their collection.
