Are we mortal or immortal?
Mary Baker Eddy has pointed out the disparity between these two views. They are in fact opposite. The one we hear ever repeated to our thoughts is not the one we obtain when we exercise our spiritual understanding.
She wrote, "The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent."
"Belief in sickness and death, as certainly as belief in sin, tends to shut out the true sense of Life and health."
"Our law refuses to recognize Man as sick or dying, but holds him to be for ever in the image and likeness of his Maker."*
Our task is to "Let lying lips be put to silence;..." (Ps. 31:18)
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." (Col. 3:5) Thisis what we know to be true.

*Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This is the textbook of Christian Science and is available at bookstores and Christian Science Reading Rooms. The Weekly Bible Lesson is from the The Christian Science Quarterly, available at any Christian Science Reading Room and by subscription. All are welcome to attend our meetings, Sunday and Wednesday. On Wednesday, individuals in the congregation make comments of Christian Science and describe their experiences with applying its principles to their lives. We are all striving to understand more.
