When: Tuesday, October 4th, 1:15pm

Where: Ramblewood Country Club

Who: 1st half Champion John Dworniczak and 2nd half Champion Paul Hessler

Format: 18 hole match play (in event of tie, scores on hardest holes on course will determine winner)

 

 

The match was held on the Red and White courses at Ramblewood Country Club.  The weather was supposed to be nice and sunny, but we had drizzle in the morning and the clouds stayed out all day.

 

 

Hole 1 (Red 1)

 

John D hit tee shot to center of fairway.  Paul pulled his tee shot to left bunker near cart path giving him an awkward stance.  John hit his second shot about 20 yards short of green.  Paul hit his 2nd shot about 40 yards short of green.  Both players hit shots on the green, Paul about 12 feet, John about 8 feet.  John made his putt to win the hole after Paul 2 putted.  (John 4, Paul 5, John wins hole, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 2 (Red 2)

 

John hit his tee shot slicing right under the trees.  Paul pulled his drive slightly in the left rough.  John punched out to about 40 yards short right of the green.  Paul hit his shot about 10 yards short of green.  John skulled his 3rd shot over the green. Then John skulled his 4th shot back over off the front of the green.  He then chipped on to about 5 feet.  Paul chipped to about 12 feet and 2 putted for bogey to win the hole.  (Paul 5, John 6, Paul wins hole, Match All Square)

 

 

Hole 3 (Red 3)

 

Both players hit good drives down center of fairway.  John hit his 2nd shot to the center of fairway about 120 yards from green.  Paul hit his 2nd shot to left edge of fairway about 80 yards from the green.  John hit his 3rd shot onto the center of green, about 12 feet short of hole.  Paul pulled his approach shot just past bunker.  Paul chipped his 4th shot onto green about 10 feet from hole.  John 2 putted for par and Paul missed his par putt to lose hole.  (John 5, Paul 6, John wins hole, John 1 Up)

 

 

Hole 4 (Red 4, Stroke hole for Paul)

 

John hit is drive down the middle of the fairway.  Paul hit his drive to the left rough.  John hit his 2nd shot to the back left sand bunker, against the back lip.  Paul’s 2nd shot came up about 20 yards short of green.  Paul chipped onto about 8 feet short of hole.  John had awkward stance in bunker and hit his 3rd shot a few feet, leaving it in the bunker near green.  His 4th shot was good shot about 3-4 feet from hole.  Paul drained his 8 footer for par, winning the hole.  (Paul 4, John 5, Paul wins hole, Match All Square)

 

 

Hole 5 (Red 5)

 

Paul hit his tee shot to the right fringe, hole high.  John hit his tee shot just short left of green.  John chipped up to about 4 feet and made putt for par.  Paul hit first putt to about 2 feet and par was conceded.  (Paul 3, John 3, Hole halved, Match All Square)

 

 

Hole 6 (Red 6)

 

Paul hit his drive to center of fairway about 210 yards from green.  John hit his tee shot to the trees on the left.  His ball got through the trees, but was close enough to impede his backswing.  John then hit his 2nd shot into hazard crossing fairway.  Paul hit his 2nd shot to about 80 yards short of green.  John dropped and hit his 4th shot to left rough about 100 yards out.  John then hit his 5th shot short of the green.  Paul hit his 3rd onto the green about 20 feet from hole.  John chipped his 6th shot onto green just passed Paul’s ball.  Paul hit his putt to about 2 feet and par was conceded to win hole.  (Paul 5, John 7, Paul wins hole, Paul 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 7 (Red 7)

 

Paul hooked his drive to left edge of bunker on left side.  John hit is drive down the right side, just staying in fairway about 150 yards out.  Paul hit a good punch shot out of bunker to about 80 yards short of green.  John hit his 2nd shot to right fringe near back of green.  Paul hit his 3rd shot to left side of green.  John chipped onto green about 12 feet away.  Both players 2 putted for 5, hole halved.  (Paul 5, John 5, Hole halved, Paul 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 8 (Red 8)

 

Paul hit his drive left through some trees near the 1st fairway.  John hit a long drive to left rough about 150 yards from green.  Paul hit punch shot out trying to keep it below tree limbs.  His shot went left of bridge and into some trees near small creek.  He did have an opening and punched out to left rough about 100 yards from green.  John caught his approach shot fat and left it about 80 yards short of green.  Paul hit his 4th shot short of the green.  John hit his 3rd shot to right front of green.  Paul chipped his 5th shot onto green and 2 putted for 7.  John left his first putt about 4 feet short, then missed his 2nd putt by a few inches which was conceded for a 6, wining the hole.  (John 6, Paul 7, John wins hole, Match All Square)

 

 

Hole 9 (Red 9)

 

John hit his tee shot to right bunker, leaving him a fried egg lie.  Paul hit his tee shot just over the same bunker, about 15 yards short of green.  John hit nice shot out of bunker, but went about 18 feet past hole. Paul hit chip about 12 feet short of hole.  John drained his 18 footer for par.  Paul missed his par putt, John won hole.  (John 3, Paul 4, John wins hole, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 10 (White 1)

 

John hit his drive to right side, ending up just under a bush with a restricted swing.  Paul hooked his drive into left trees.  The ball was not found, so Paul took a drop and hit his 3rd shot just left of the cart path, but under a tree about 100 yards short of green.  John hit a punch shot out to about 80 yards short of green.  Paul hit a punch shot under tree (4th) shot into front left bunker.  John put his 3rd shot onto green, about 12 feet from hole.  Paul hit a nice bunker shot 5th shot left of the hole onto the green.  John 2 putted for 5, wining hole.  (John 5, Paul 6, John wins hole, John 2 UP)

 

 

Hole 11 (White 2)

 

John hit his drive through the left trees and out of bounds in someone’s back yard.  Paul hit his drive to left side of fairway, about 150 yards out.  Paul hit his 2nd shot onto left side fringe.  John took penalty drop and hit his 3rd shot to right side of green, about 12 feet from hole.  Paul 2 putted for a par, John missed his par putt.  Paul wins hole.  (Paul 4, John 5, Paul wins hole, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 12 (White 3)

 

Paul hit his tee shot short of the left bunker.  John hit his tee shot to center of green, about 15 feet short of hole.  Paul chipped his 2nd shot to about 8 feet.  John hit his putt about 6 inches short of the hole and par was conceded. Paul drained his 8 footer for par, Hole halved.  (Paul 3, John 3, Hole halved, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 13 (White 4)

 

Paul and John both hit their drive long to right rough.  Paul hit a gutsy shot between the OB fence and the trees, leaving himself about 80 yards from green.  John hit a nice shot to left side of fairway about 100 yards out. John hit his 3rd shot just off back of green.  Paul hit his 3rd shot off the back of the green about 15 ft from the hole.  Both players chipped on and 2 putted to halve hole with 6. (Paul 6, John 6, Hole halved, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 14 (White 5, Stroke hole for Paul)

 

Paul pulled his drive to the left, passed the bunker and into the trees about 130 yards out.  John hit his drive to center of fairway about 140 yards out. Paul hit a nice punch shot to about 40 yards short of green.  John hit his 2nd shot to left side of green.  Paul chipped his 3rd shot onto front of green.  John 2 putted for par and Paul 2 putted for 5, halving the hole.  (John 4, Paul 5 Net 4, Hole halved, John 1 UP)

 

 

Hole 15 (White 6)

 

Both players hit their tee shots onto green, Paul on the front of the green and John near the middle of green with a back flag position. Paul whacked his putt which still came up about 8 feet short.  John hit a nice putt to about 2 feet and had par conceded.  Paul burned the left edge of the hole to miss his par and lose the Hole.  (John 3, Paul 4, John wins hole, John 2 UP)

 

 

Hole 16 (White 7)

 

John hit his drive right just short of the fairway bunker.  Paul pulled his drive down the left cart path just under a small tree.  John hit is 2nd shot down the right side, hit a tree and kicked right, leaving him a slight view of the green.  Paul hit a nice punch shot to about 200 yards out.  Paul hit his 3rd shot to about 50 yards short of green.  John hit his 3rd shot short and hit a rope fence post and kicked the ball left into right rough about 60 yards short of green.  John hit his 4th shot about 5 yards short of green.  Paul hit his 4th shot onto green about 15 feet past the front Hole position.  John chipped his 5th shot about 8 feet passed the hole, then 2 putted for 7.  Paul hit first putt about 4 feet short of hole, then lipped out his 2nd putt and had putt conceded for 7.  (Paul 7, John 7, Hole halved, John 2 UP, Match Dormy)

 

 

Hole 17 (White 8)

 

John hit his tee shot left over the trees and about 10 yards right of the OB fence sitting about 145 yards from green.  Paul pulled his drive left and it finished up between the 2 bunkers on the left.  Paul hit his 2nd shot to about 10 yards short of the green.  John hit his 2nd shot about 30 yards short, right of the green.  John hit his 3rd shot about 5 feet short of green.  John then chipped his 4th shot onto green and 2 putted for 6.  Paul’s back was bothering him earlier in the day and he was unable to continue, so picked up his ball and conceded the match.  (John wins hole and match, 3 & 1)

 

 

Hole 18 (White 9)

 

John hit his drive down the right center of the fairway about 130 yards out.  He hit his 2nd shot to right side, just between the 2 bunkers.  He chipped onto the green about 6 feet short of hole and 2 putted for 5.  George hit nice drive down right center of fairway about 140 yards from green.  I then hit his approach shot to front left of green, about 25 feet short of hole.  I hit a nice lag putt about 3-4 feet past the hole and made the come-backer for par, winning hole for Paul!  ;-)
