Memory Quilt

The Memory Quilt is the "History of our Home on Fabric". Each square represents a resident, a graduate, a Board member, a volunteer of our organization. Anyone who so desires can add a square to the quilt. We only ask that the square represent them in some way. If you have had the opportunity to see the Memory Quilt hanging in the stairwell area of the Shelter of the Cross, you will see the diversity of personalities of those who are involved in our program.

Whether the square is appliquéd, quilted, hand-drawn, stenciled; in poetry or prayer, each is truly unique and reflective of the individual it represents. The Board of Directors, the Seal of the City of Danbury, the Shelter of the Cross logo all have squares.

We thank our volunteer and friend Diane Costello who so graciously and skillfully pieces the quilt together and assists us to create each square. We continue to quilt as we add residents and volunteers to the Shelter family. At this time the quilt has grown so long that only a portion can now be exhibited. We are brainstorming ideas of places and ways to exhibit the full quilt. If you have ideas about how we can do this, please tell us on the "Contact Us" page.
