SHELTER OF THE CROSS ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The Shelter of the Cross is a transitional supportive housing program for
the elderly (58 + yrs.), homeless, or at risk of homelessness, men and women primarily from the Greater Danbury
Area.
Referral Requirements for Admission are:
- Homeless or at serious risk of homelessness
- Capable of independent living
- Fifty-eight years old or older
- Sober (alcohol and drugs)
- Not a danger to self or others
- Willing to engage in a program to change one's life
- Income under $30,000.00 a year
Please note: before admission to the Shelter of the Cross a
medical clearance that states the applicant is free of any communicable disease must be obtained.
OUR ADMISSION PROCESS
- Print and complete the Referral Form and return the form to The Shelter of the
Cross via fax, mail or e-mail. This puts the referred person on our waiting list.
- Make an appointment with the Shelter of the Cross staff for a preliminary interview, a tour of our house, an
explanation of the Shelter of the Cross' Program and verification of the admission requirements.
- Complete an application (given at the time of the interview) for admission and return it to Shelter of the
Cross.
- Contact Shelter of the Cross every month or two so we can know that the applicant is still interested and
how we can reach the applicant or a representative of the applicant when a vacancy becomes available.
- When a vacancy is available, the Shelter of the Cross staff will make an appointment with the applicant to
meet with our Admitting Committee. They will review the application and interview the applicant. Applicant
may bring a case manager, friend, conservator or other advisor to the meeting. Applicant will be notified
at that time if the Admitting Committee has approved the applicant for admittance into the Shelter of the
Cross' Program.
