3 squares baking chocolate 1 cup milk 2 tablespoons butter 2 cups sugar 2 egg yolks or whole eggs, beaten 1 teaspoons soda 1 teaspoon salt 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon vanilla |
Pre-heat the oven by setting it to 325 degrees. Melt the chocolate squares together with the milk and butter over high heat in a double boiler. (Alternative: 1 sq of chocolate may be substituted with 3 tablespoons powdered cocoa plus 1 tablespoon butter.) Allow to cool slightly before adding the remaining ingredients. Sift the flour and the soda and salt together before adding to the mixture. Bake in a sheet pan for about 30 minutes. |

All Around Icing Boil these ingredients: 2 and 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup, and 1/2 cup water. Boil until it spins a long thread. Beat 2 egg whites (possibly left over from above recipe) until you can turn a bowl upside down (without egg whites falling out, of course, silly). Continue beating whilst adding the boiled syrup mixture. Beat the whole until it holds a shape in points. Then add 1 teaspoon vanilla. This is a basic icing recipe to which you can add any flavoring you like or use as is. |
