Small brown pitchers, ewers, or jugs
| Two little brown jugs. One is a flat and fat pitcher with floral decorations in yellow and orange and brown and green and ochre. The interior is an ochre yellow, and the bottom is white. Sizing: about 2 3/4-inches high at highest point (the handle); about 4 1/2-inches wide at the widest point (diameter); and diameter of base is about 2 1/4-inches. Markings: incised marks are various and include an omega shape with marking along the top which resemble a child's drawing of the sun, also the number 329 (which may actually be 829) and the capital letter W. Shiny glaze to the surface, and not a solid brown, but with variation form ochre to near-black in the coloring of the body. The second small jug or creamer is a shiny brown color about 2 3/4-inches high and 2 7/8-inches wide (including pour spout and handle) and about 2-inches diameter for the base (the same color as the rest of the jug). Markings: on bottom "KAMAR" and on the the next line "MASON NH" (written, not incised). The pair are individually cute but are by no means a well-mated set. Estimated age: 50 to 75-years old. For the collector seeking variety in a gathering of small jugs, ewers, or creamers. |
