Four Dishes, |

Four small hand-painted dishes, with flower designs
| These dishes are about 6 1/4-inches in diameter and show individual but similar floral designs and gold-colored highlighting along the irregular, fluted edges. Colors used include blues, red, fuschias, yellows, and greens. These four are in the best shape; there is also a fifth plate which exhibits craqueleur ridging on the front. Each plate is different and each is obviously painted by hand. Markings on the back include a crown-and-shield hallmark with the letters "LM" enclosed and "Royql" above and "Bonn GERMANY" below. There is also a triangular hallmark enclosing a number (185787 or 185789 or 185949 or 185951) with "PATENTED" underneath and along the triangle sides, "GESETZLICH" and "GESCHUTZT", with some marks less faded than others. Additional written markings, in dark red, are all numbers, in three rows, and an additional incised marking (a symbol of some sort) is not legible. These heirloom pieces may be a hundred-plus years old. Thoughts on usage--probably best as display dishes and not as dinnerware. An asset for any collection of unique and antique china patterns and dishes. |
