1963 Robert Frost Commemorative Medal
| Bronze paperweight or commemorative medal which weighs about 6 ounces and measures about 2 3/4-inches in diameter and about 1/4-inch in thickness. One side features an embossed rendering of a building with columns along front and tower with flag flying on top (an Amherst college building) in a landscape setting (trees). Around the rim of this side is the legend, "It asks of us a certain height" in capital letters as well as "Robert Frost at Amherst - 1963". On the other side is an embossed rendering of a naked nymph on a rock with text on the rim--"The Sabrina Society" and "Amherst College". Additionally, on the coinage edge of this round medal or paperweight is more text: "©1988 Medallic Art Co. - Danbury, CT". Minor dent or mark (about 1/8-inch) on the rim edge and a few minor scratches evident also on the rim edge. An interesting collectible commemorating an event in 1963 when the American poet Robert Frost addressed the Sabrina Society at Amherst College, an ivy league college in Amherst, Massachusetts. Please note the dates discrepancy--the 1963 date of the event and the 1988 copyright date by the medal manufacturing company. |
